Long Term Squatter Settlement Destroyed in Watsonville

What used to be an annual effort to remove the houseless from their encampments is now a monthly effort by the city of Watsonville, which cites concerns over water quality. This small amount of human waste, of course, is a much larger problem than the massive amounts of agricultural run-off.

From the Sentinel:
Armando Carillo, 45, sat atop the levee with the other homeless men in front of shopping carts filled with fat black plastic garbage bags. He said he'd lived in the camp year-round for three years, hanging out under the bridge in wet weather. Asked why he didn't sleep at the Pajaro Rescue Mission across the river in Monterey County, Carillo said he and the other men didn't like having to get up early in the morning to leave. He said he didn't want to go anywhere else anyway, that he wanted to stay with the friends he called family.

Ram-Raiding in Watsón

From the Sentinel:
A vehicle smashed through the window of a water store at Tuttle and East Lake avenues late Tuesday in what police said was a burglary. Sgt. Michael Ridgway said the suspect took "thousands" of dollars from Aqualight before fleeing on Tuttle Avenue. Police followed a short trail of broken glass, but were unable to locate the suspect.
From England :

Ram-raiding, a tactic of expropriation with its roots in England, has finally found its way to Santa Cruz County! For a class-conscious introduction to ram-raiding and to expropriation generally, check out "Interviews With Class Warriors", written by members of Class War in Australia.
