"Trigger Cuts" and an Athenian Gesture

Gov. Jerry Brown revealed a new budget plan today. A new mechanism called "trigger cuts" were introduced. These cuts put even more money for social services on the chopping block and attach their enactment to future state revenue. Newspapers and other media sources throughout California published this little diagram to explain:

Meanwhile in Athens thousands take to the streets against proposed austerity measures.
